MAC Hermann Trophy to be Awarded Friday

The NCAA soccer season may have ended with Akron's thrilling 1-0 victory over Louisville in Santa Barbara, but the sport's version of the Heisman Trophy, the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, will be awarded on Friday.
Here's a glimpse of the three finalists who could follow in the footsteps of Alexi Lalas, Claudio Reyna, and Tony Meola
Colin Rolfe (Forward, Louisville)- 9 Goals, 7 Assists, 25 Points
The junior two-time First-Team All-American supplied the Cardinals with two goals against UCLA to give Louisville its first-ever College Cup appearance. Rolfe led UL in scoring en route to an unbeaten streak that ended in the College Cup final at the hands of Akron. A MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2009, he is the first ever Louisville Cardinal to be a finalist for the award.
Will Bruin (Forward, Indiana)- 18 goals, 5 Assists, 41 Points
The St. Louis native scored his first career hat trick in a 5-1 rout of No. 5 UCLA over Labor Day weekend. Bruin carried IU to its first Big Ten regular season championship since 2007, scoring back-to-back goals to come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Northwestern in the conference championship clincher. The junior First-Team All-American had signed a Generation adidas contract and will take his talents to Major League Soccer in 2011.
Darlington Nagbe (Forward, Akron)- 7 goals, 13 Assists, 27 Points
A number of players from Caleb Porter's national championship-winning squad could be considered for the MAC Hermann Trophy. However, Nagbe, the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, has made the best case among voters. The junior forward set up six game winning goals for the Zips in 2010, as well as netting two game winners himself. Nagbe looks to bring the MAC Hermann Trophy back to Akron for the second straight year, as Teal Bunbury won the award in 2009. Like Bruin, Nagbe signed a Generation adidas contract with MLS.
According to the Missouri Athletic Club's Website, the trophy is awarded to the best NCAA Division I soccer player. If the trophy was a Most Valuable Player award, it would be hard to argue against Will Bruin winning the trophy as he carried his Indiana squad. However, it's hard to look past Colin Rolfe leading Louisville to an unbeaten regular season and Darlington Nagbe helping Akron to its first national championship in any sport.
The winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy will be announced at 5:45p.m. Central time on Friday evening.
