Hoosiers look to shake off tough loss as UCLA looms

The Indiana Men’s soccer team will face No. 5/11 UCLA in the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic on Sunday at Bill Armstrong Stadium at 2pm.

IU begins the year under a new regime, as former star player and new head coach Todd Yeagley kicks off his career with the Hoosiers.

Indiana went 1-1-1 in preseason games, and in their first action of the season, the team dropped a heartbreaker to California, losing  2-1 in overtime Friday night on a controversial call.

UCLA comes into the game 1-0 after beating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Friday night, 1-0.

This will be the 17th meeting between the two schools. Indiana leads the series 9-7, and has won the last three meetings. The most recent clash between the two teams took place in Los Angeles in 2008, a match that saw the Hoosiers triumph handily, 3-0.

Tomorrow's game will be a tough match-up for the Hoosiers, as UCLA is returning four starters off a team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament a year ago. UCLA also boasts the number one ranked recruiting class this season and is predicted to win the Pac-10 conference.

A key for the Hoosiers in the game is coming out strong and putting pressure on the Bruins early. Indiana will look to get Preseason All-American forward Will Bruin involved quickly. Bruin scored the Hoosiers' lone goal against Cal on Friday night.

Another thing to watch for is the play of Indiana's incoming freshman. Coach Yeagley so far has not hesitated to get his young guys some early playing time in the new season. Midfielders Harrison Petts and Nikita Kotlov look to get another start in their freshman campaign. Kotlov also scored a goal in a preseason match up against Duke.

On the other side of the ball, UCLA returns top scorer Chandler Hoffman, and the Hoosiers will also see a familiar face, as defensemen Matt Wiet played at IU last season.

IU and UCLA will kick off at 2pm. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network, and WIUX 99.1 FM will have a radio broadcast of the action.
