Dear King James,
Yo man, the Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t going to retire your jersey.
I know it may be a shock to you but face it bro, what did you do there? Yes, you got the team to the team to the finals for the first time in franchise history, but you got swept in maybe one of the most non-competitive NBA Finals that anyone had ever seen.
And then you failed to lead the team back to NBA Finals in your remaining years. I thought you were supposed to be the next Jordan?
MJ would have at least taken that NBA Finals series to the max. MJ would have taken that team back to the finals. And MJ definitely would never have left the Chicago Bulls to go play with his friends. I also get the feeling that your teammate Dwyane Wade wouldn’t have done that either since he has publically said he was shocked by your decision.
But let’s forget the MJ comparisons because you have not come close to earning that yet. Why did you always act like you never wanted to be part of Cleveland? Why would you show up to an Indians-Yankees playoff series in a N.Y cap? Come on, man. You can be a closet Yankee fan but at least support the hometown team.
And bro, get rid of the posse. What NBA player needs 50 of his boys to follow him around the whole season? Another word of advice, please don’t have one of your boys act like as an anonymous source and tell the media that some of the players on the team don’t think Erik Spoelstra can coach.
Listen man, I still think you’re unbelievable player. You can singlehandedy take over the game because no one can guard you one-on-one. But it’s time you get that killer instinct that MJ always had and that Kobe has right now.
That is why Spoelstra questions your seriousness. First off, he is the coach and he has the right to do that. But I think he, as well as many, remembers Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semis last year against Boston where it looked like you took the night off. You have to have that hunger to want to fight and dominate night after night. That’s what Cleveland wanted from you, and unfortunately you didn’t deliver.
And then you embarrassed them on national television during the summer. Which also was the brightest idea but the past is the past. Now is now. And if you want to be in the NBA Finals this year against Kobe and the Lakers, then learn from the past and find that killer instinct.
Then maybe, just maybe, the Miami Heat will retire your jersey.
